51,816 Armed Forces veterans to receive RM500 allowance payment — Ismail Sabri

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 — A total of 51,816 Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veterans will receive an RM500 payment in recognition and appreciation of their services beginning today.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this one-off payment was for phases three and four and will be credited directly into their bank accounts.

He said the first and second phases of the payment to 70,000 recipients of the Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM) had been completed in February and March 2020, involving an allocation of RM35 million.

“We had made payments to all the 70,000 (previous recipients). However, after we made the payment, many more registered. So many were dissatisfied at not being able to get the allowance, because the budget was for the 70,000 who were registered at the time,” he said in a press conference here yesterday.

According to Ismail, the payment of the allowance this time involved an allocation of RM25.9 million, specifically to commemorate the services and sacrifices of MAF veterans who upheld the peace and sovereignty of the country during the emergency period from 1969 to 1990.
