Another record high in Selangor with 1,623 new infections

SHAH ALAM, Nov 24 — Selangor recorded 1,623 new Covid-19 cases today, with 1,511 or 93.1 per cent of the cases linked to the Teratai Cluster mainly detected in Klang.

With this, Malaysia also hit a record daily high of 2,188 new infections as the cases in Selangor make up 74.2 per cent of the total cases registered nationwide.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today said Sabah saw the second-highest figure with 232 cases or 10.6 per cent out of the total infections in the country, followed by Perak with 112 cases or 5.1 per cent.

“Most of the cases reported in Selangor are from the Teratai Cluster which saw a rise to as many as 1,511 new cases.

“Public health assistance and the medical teams have been mobilised into these affected areas to assist in preventive and control measures including large-scale Covid-19 screenings,” he said.

No imported cases or deaths were reported in Selangor today.

Dr Noor Hisham added that out of the 1,623 cases, 1,539 were from existing clusters, 54 infections from close-contact screenings and 30 others identified from other Covid-19 screenings.

Meanwhile, according to the data by the Selangor State Health Department’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), Klang recorded the highest figure with 1,537 cases, followed by Petaling (31), Hulu Langat (29), Kuala Langat (11), Gombak (9), Sepang (4) and Kuala Selangor (2).

Sabak Bernam, which is a green zone, and Hulu Selangor both recorded zero new cases.

As of noon today, the cumulative figure of Covid-19 cases recorded in the state stands at 12,578, out of the accumulated 58,847 total cases recorded nationwide.
