SHAH ALAM, Nov 15 — The digitalisation agenda supported by the Selangor government will be strengthened further to provide assistance for those hit by the Covid-19 outbreak, says Rodziah Ismail.

The state executive councillor for entrepreneur development said studies found that the livelihoods of 36 per cent out of the 6.6 million population in Selangor were affected since the movement control order (MCO) was enforced in March.

“The study also showed that about 84 per cent of the people only have savings enough to last them through three months, which is worrisome for us.

“One of the ways to help them is to coach them on how to do online business and without the need of having a physical store or stall, which may help change their fate,” she said in a recent interview with Media Selangor.

A total of RM369 million was allocated in the 2021 Selangor Budget 2021 for the Smart State and Digitalisation Agenda initiatives.

Selangor Menteri Besat Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the initiative is part of the efforts to holistically boost the economy through the transformation of services, social, businesses and entrepreneurship, value creation as well as the creative industry.

He said the policy would also eliminate the stigma that digitalisation would impact job opportunities but instead improve the quality of employment.
