Clusters linked to workplace behind Klang Valley’s Covid-19 numbers spike

SHAH ALAM, Nov 24 — The rising Covid-19 cases in the Klang Valley, particularly in Selangor, are mostly from the clusters linked to workplaces.

The Health Ministry revealed that the Teratai Cluster, which is mostly detected in Klang, recorded the highest number of positive Covid-19 cases linked to a workplace with an accumulated total of 4,036 infections.

“To date, a total of 119 clusters reported were linked to workplaces. Out of the total, 36 clusters have ended while 83 more are still active.

“A total of 77,201 individuals have been screened with 12,079 found positive for Covid-19. This had involved 4,398 locals and 7,681 foreigners,” said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today.

The second-highest cluster linked to a workplace is the Damanlela Construction Site Cluster with a cumulative total of 1,539 positive cases, followed by Cergas Cluster (1,337), Hentian Cluster (1,101) and Kaya Cluster (900).

As of noon today, Selangor saw a total of 1,623 daily Covid-19 infections, with 1,511 cases or 93.1 per cent of it coming from the Teratai Cluster, which is linked to a Top Glove factory in the state.

Malaysia had recorded 2,188 new Covid-19 cases today, beating the daily record of 1,882 on Monday.
