KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 — The effectiveness of the MySejahtera mobile application has been proven when 9,167 Covid-19 positive cases were detected through the application since it was launched on April 20, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said the application had helped the ministry to identify Covid-19 positive cases through self-assessment and close contact tracing.
“As of yesterday, a total of 1,561 cases were detected and confirmed to be Covid-19 positive through self-assessment.
“For the same period, a total of 7,606 positive cases were detected through close contact tracing via MySejahtera,” he said in a press statement on Covid-19 development here today.
Dr Noor Hisham added that since its launch, the app had received an overwhelming response from all levels of society, with 23,953,970 registered users and dependents as well as 1,058,853 registered business premises.
So far, MySejahtera has recorded 1.7 billion cumulative check-ins to registered premises using the QR code scan method, with an average of 15 million check-ins a day.
For contact tracing purposes, Dr Noor Hisham said relevant data would be distributed to District Health Offices (PKD) to assist in field activities.
“The data will be analysed together with the findings of field investigations, followed by contact tracing activities.
“The contact tracing data collected via MySejahtera check-ins and visitor attendance records are stored from the scanning of QR code available at all premises,” he said.
Citing the Utama Cluster as an example, he said 17,260 users were identified through the MySejahtera application as being visitors to the shopping mall in a given period of time.
Of the total, Dr Noor Hisham said 1,343 individuals were identified for further assessment by PKD, with 457 people confirmed as close contacts to the Utama Cluster positive cases.
“The sampling tests later confirmed 221 positive cases out of the 457 close contacts. Of the 236 positive cases under the Utama Cluster announced on the same day, 221 cases (93 per cent) were detected via the MySejahtera application,” he said.
Furthermore, Dr Noor Hisham said the MySejahtera application also provides security features that comply with the global standards to protect the confidentiality and safety of the data.
“The data collected through the application was solely for contact tracing purposes with the power provided under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Act 1988 and Medical Act 1971.
“Users’ personal information collected is also protected by the Personal Data Protection Act 2010. The recorded check-in data will be archived after 30 days and disposed of after 90 days,” he added.
He said the MySejahtera application also helped to answer 523,000 user enquiries and received a 4.7-star rating in Apple Store and Google Playstore.
