Covid-19: RM1,000 special incentive for affected tourism operator

By Khairul Azran Hussin

SHAH ALAM, Nov 19 — Selangor government has disbursed a one-off special incentive of RM1,000 each to all 553 tourism industry operators who were affected by Covid-19.

State executive councillor for tourism Hee Loy Sian said the cash assistance to 486 licensed tour guides, 16 homestay operators and 51 Selangor community hosts will be credited into their respective bank accounts before or on November 30.

“They will receive benefit from the RM553,000 (cash assistance) allocated for them and it is hoped this incentive could (help) ease their burden from losses due to the decline in tourists arrivals,” said Hee Loy Sian.

He said this at a press conference after attending the handing over ceremony of the Special Incentive for Covid-19 Economic Impact Recovery Package at the Selangor Economic Action Council Meeting Room today.

He said a study by Tourism Selangor discovered that tourism industry operators’ cash flow would only last for another one to six months.

“The state government remains committed by formulating various policies and initiatives to revitalise the tourism sector next year, and together we pray that the Covid-19 chain will break soon,” he said.

On July 13, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced a special incentive of RM1,000 to tourism sector operators affected by the enforcement of the movement control order (MCO).
