Ex-Federal Court Judge Suriyadi appointed AIAC director

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 — Former Federal Court Judge Tan Sri Suriyadi Halim Omar has been appointed as the director of the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) for the 2020-2022 term, effective December 1.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said the decision, agreed by the Cabinet on November 13, was the result of a government consultation with the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organisation (AALCO), the parent body of AIAC.

“With this appointment, I hope he can continue to excel in leading AIAC as a superior arbitration centre in the Asian region,” he said in a statement today.

Suriyadi, 69, who previously served the Attorney-General’s Chambers, obtained his Bachelor of Laws at the Warwick University and Barrister at Law at the Lincoln’s Inn, London.
