MIRI, Nov 12— The Malaysian Marine Department will ensure that the investigation into the MV Dayang Topaz accident incident runs smoothly.
Corporate Unit of the department in a statement today said, the investigation team had gathered evidence from the vessel’s Voyage Data Recorder to complete the investigation on the October 27 incident which claimed the lives of two crewmen.
“The department has ensured all factors contributing to the occurrence of this accident are in detail and actions are taken to ensure the investigation runs smoothly,” said the statement.
The visit restrictions on board of MV Dayang Topaz had been lifted on November 6 to give way to third parties and Petronas to inspect the maintenance vessel.
The investigation team, together with Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and the Department of Environment (DOE) had also surveyed the location of the incident at Baram-B oil platform on October 29 and found that no marine pollution had occurred.
Covid 19 swab test results on the remaining MV Topaz crewmen on November 6 came out negative.
The MV Dayang Topaz collided with Baram-B oil platform when it went out of control after one of its anchor cables broke at 7.7 nautical miles from Kuala Baram here during adverse weather.
A total of 125 crewmen have jumped overboard the Dayang Topaz while 62 others maintained their positions onboard.
Two men, Second Engineer Aaron Michael Rajasgran, 34 and a rigger Thomas Liang, 39, died of drowning in the incident.
