MPS seals premise suspected behind Sungai Selangor pollution

By Norrasyidah Arshad

SHAH ALAM, Nov 11 — A premise suspected to have caused the odour pollution in Sungai Selangor was sealed by the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) yesterday, says Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas).

Luas said the action was taken during a joint enforcement operation by the agency with Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor), National Water Services Commission (Span), Department of Environment (DOE), Gombak District and Land Office and police.

“Luas will issue a water protection authority letter under Section 122 of the Luas Enactment 1999 to the premise as well as issue an order to immediately start a clean-up work.

“Luas will also issue an authority letter to the Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) under Section 121 (1) of the same enactment to halt the flow and begin clean-up works at the sewerage treatment plant,” said Luas in a statement in Facebook today.

The agency said it will continue monitoring to curb the pollution of Sungai Selangor.

The river contamination detected yesterday had caused four water treatment plants (WTP) to suspend its operations, which led to an unscheduled water supply disruption affecting more than a million consumer accounts in the Klang Valley.

The four WTPs have since resumed operations, with Air Selangor saying supply will be restored in stages from 3pm today.
