Pumps used to drain floodwaters in Ijok

SHAH ALAM, Nov 23 — Three pumps with the capacity of 10 cusec (cubic feet per second) each are being used to drain floodwaters from three locations affected since Wednesday in Parit Mahang, Ijok.

Selangor Disaster Management Unit (UPBN) operations officer Muhammad Izzat Haziq Mohd Nazir said the pumps were each installed at the sluice gates at compartment D area of Kampung Ijok, Bukit Kuching and Parit Gajah.

“The floods in Parit Mahang, Ijok are expected to recede fully by tomorrow if the area is not hit by heavy rain tonight,” he told Bernama when contacted today.

Two flood relief centres have been opened in Ijok, Kuala Selangor since last Thursday, namely Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ijok which is housing 38 evacuees while 52 residents of Al-Jashiera old folks home are being accommodated at SK Parit Mahang.

Apart from Kuala Selangor, two relief centres have been opened in the Kuala Langat district since last Saturday where 32 people from six families are being housed at SK Kebun Baru, Telok Panglima Garang and eight people from two families at surau Nurul Sham, Jalan Merbuk, Kebun Baru.
