Selangor aims to drop unemployment rate below 5 pct

By Khairul Azran Hussin

SHAH ALAM, Nov 16 — Selangor has aimed in reducing the unemployment rate in the state to below 5 per cent this year, says state executive councillor Mohd Khairuddin Othman.

The Youth, Sports and Human Resource Development Committee chairman said various programmes will be held by the state government in order to meet the target, which includes the Jelajah Selangor Bekerja 2020 (Selangor Jobs Exploration 2020).

“The current employment rate in Selangor is at 5.5 per cent, it would be good if we get to reduce it down to 4.5 per cent.

“It isn’t to say that we are satisfied with the current situation, but we are coming up with various programmes to create more job opportunities next year,” he told reporters when met at the job fair held at the Kuala Selangor Indoor Stadium, here yesterday.

Over 90 companies are participating in the Jelajah Selangor Bekerja 2020 event which kicked off in Kuala Selangor yesterday, followed by Gombak (November 21), Paya Jaras (22 November), Hulu Langat (29 November) and Shah Alam (5 and 6 December).

Some of the jobs openings include lecturer, Quran tutor, sales manager, research officer, technician, production operator and store manager.

Registrations are open via the website at http://nfdot.com/ereg/views/jobfair, the JobsMalaysia Selangor Facebook and Instagram (@jobsmalaysiaselangor) platforms or via the helpline at 03-55247740 or 03-55231309.
