By Khairul Azran Hussin

SHAH ALAM, Nov 11 — After 13 days of debate, the Selangor Legislative Assembly passed the RM2.32 billion 2021 Selangor Budget today.

Speaker Ng Suee Lim said three important motions were also passed which are amendments to Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) Enactment 1999, replacement of old water pipes and conservation of permanent forest reserves in the state.

“The amendments to Luas Enactment which will be gazetted will provide heavier punishments to those found guilty of contaminating the water sources.

“Also the state representatives have agreed to the conservation of the forest reserves in the state as a long-term water catchment area,” said Ng to the media at the State Legislative Assembly lobby here today.

He said although the session was held during a challenging time while the Covid-19 pandemic is still at large, the state government remains committed to continuing the debate especially on issues that are important to the people.

“There are states that have shortened their sessions but Selangor decided to continue on (the sitting) to ensure all issues could be debated to find the (best) solutions,” he said.

The state assembly sitting began on October 30 and had required all assemblymen, civil servants, staff and media personnel to undergo Covid-19 screenings before the start of the session.
