Selangor Budget: Right allocation for state sports development

SHAH ALAM, Nov 1 — The RM29.7 million allocated for sports development is right on time to prepare the Selangor sports contingent for the Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Johor next year.

State Youth, Sports Development and Human Resource Development Committee chairman Mohd Khairuddin Othman said it would improve the planned programmes and enable Selangor to continue to excel at the biennial games despite facing challenges due to Covid-19.

“The allocation given by the state government through the 2021 Selangor Budget is very timely as we are preparing to go to Sukma and it also allows the upgrading of the athlete’s facilities.

“Selangor’s (Sukma) record before this was in the top three and we are confident it can be maintained,” said Mohd Khairuddin when contacted.

He said they will also continue the expansion of e-sports with an allocation of RM3 million next year to cover the training and support for the youths to enter the industry.

Previously, Selangor emerged as the first state to organise the Selangor Cyber ​​Games (SCG), that includes a fight-from-home version during the movement control order (MCO) that received positive response.

In addition, RM2 million is allocated to continue the Roda Darul Ehsan Initiative (RiDE) programme to help out some 3,000 youths earn an income or become riders in e-hailing services.

In addition, the State Government also allocated RM2.83 million in an effort to elevate the Local Youth Movement (PeBT) as well as a RM20 million contribution to the Selangor Football Association (FAS) from the state government, Selangor Menteri Besar Inc (MBI) and Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).
