SHAH ALAM, Nov 9 — The Selangor government has formed the Geopark Management Body in Gombak and Hulu Langat in its efforts to obtain the National Geopark recognition.

State executive councillor for environment Hee Loy Sian said the committee will collect information on geopark, provide data, execute promotional activities as well as identify agencies to collaborate with.

“A total of 20 locations in two districts have been proposed, which includes the Klang Gates Quartz Ridge in Gombak, Taman Tasik Biru Seri Kundang (Rawang), Batu Caves limestone hill, Bukit Tabur (Taman Melawati), and the former Batu Arang mining site (Gombak).

“Other locations include the Taman Rimba Commonwealth waterfall (Rawang), Sungai Gabai waterfall (Hulu Langat), Sungai Kanching waterfall (Rawang), Bukit Nuang granite (Hulu Langat), Broga Hill granite (Semenyih), Batu Dam and Klang Gates Dam,” he said.

Hee said this in his reply to a question from Hulu Kelang assemblyman Saari Sungib who sought clarification on the Selangor Geopark Site during the Selangor Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

Hee added that the locations identified have national, regional and international geological significance as well as sustainable development.

“The development in all of the locations must emphasis on the balance that involves the importance of natural resources conservation.”
