SHAH ALAM, Nov 9 — The Selangor state representatives today had put on orange face masks and hold up the ‘Stop Violence, Respect Women’ (Hentikan Keganasan, Hormat Wanita) placards at the State Legislative Assembly in a show of support towards the “2020 End Violence Against Women Campaign”.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, Selangor Speaker Ng Suee Lim and state executive councillor for women and family development Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud had also participated in the campaign.
Dr Siti Mariah had said she hopes that the people would also participate in the campaign in efforts to reduce the number of domestic violence cases and thus improve the state welfare.
The state-level campaign is conducted by the Selangor Public Health, Unity, Women Empowerment and Family Committee in conjunction with the United Nation’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which runs from November 25 to December 10.
The global theme for the campaign this year is “Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!”
According to the Selangor Social Welfare Department’s Legal and Enforcement Unit, a total of 224 domestic violence cases reported from January to September had involved women and while another 30 of the victims were men.
