Sepang 1000KM Endurance Race 2020 cancelled — SIC

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 — The twelfth edition of the Sepang 1000KM Endurance Race (S1K) 2020, scheduled for November 27-29, has been cancelled due to the current conditional movement control order (CMCO) and tighter standard operating procedures for sporting events.

Sepang International Circuit (SIC), in a statement today, said the decision was made because public health and safety are SIC’s priority.

“As a responsible company and venue provider for motorsports activities and events, we are working closely with the National Security Council (MKN), Ministry of Health (MOH), Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) and the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“S1K involves more than the permitted number of participants allowed by the government, which includes the race officials, crews and teams. As such, SIC had to take the decision to cancel the 2020 race to prevent the risk and spread of Covid-19 virus,” said the statement.

SIC hoped to organise the S1K next year.

Last year, S1K had a record number of entries with a total of 70 cars competing in the M Production and S Production classes.
