KLANG, Nov 25 — Seven Top Glove factories have been ordered to close starting today until December 8.

The order was issued by the Selangor State Health Department under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).

Klang District Health officer Dr Masitah Mohamed said the closure follows the sudden increase in Covid-19 cases among the factory workers.

“The closure today is just the first phase (of the operation) and there will be other factories to be closed. There are four phases of closures in total.

“Within 14 days of this closure, the factory management must carry out Covid-19 screenings on its workers, conduct disinfection operations as well as comply with the standard operating procedure (SOP),” she said to SelangorKini when met after putting up a notice at the Top Glove’s F4 Factory along Jalan Teratai in Meru, here today.

Also present were Klang District officer Mohd Zainal Mohd Nor, Klang Municipal Council president Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin, Top Glove managing director Datuk Lee Kim Meow and Klang Utara District police chief Assistant Commissioner Nurulhuda Mohd Salleh.

On Monday, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri had said that the 28 Top Glove factories in Klang would cease operations in stages to allow factory workers to undergo testing and mandatory quarantine in an effort to contain the spread of the virus among Top Glove employees.

According to the Health Ministry, the Teratai Cluster that is linked to the Top Glove’s workers had registered a total of 2,524 new Covid-19 infections. The total number of workers screened is at 5,767 while 1,913 more are still waiting for results.
