HULU LANGAT, Nov 5 — The 110 families affected by the Hulu Langat floods will be receiving a RM500 aid from the Selangor government, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor Menteri Besar said the immediate assistance was to ease their burden and ensure their welfare is taken care of.

“We (state government) will be providing the RM500 financial aid as stipulated under the state’s regulation on disaster management.

“However, for now, the Social Welfare Department and seven NGOs have provided temporary assistance such as face masks, disinfectants, soap and several other essentials,” he told reporters yesterday after visiting the flood victims at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Serai, Hulu Langat, which was used as a temporary relief centre (PPS).

Amirudin said a total of 60 families were placed at the school since yesterday morning while another 50 are at the Kompleks Penghulu Batu 10.

He said all the victims are only allowed to return home after the situation has fully recovered to ensure their safety.

“Based on the current situation, it is possible that it (floodwaters recede) will take around 12 to 24 hours and after that, they will be allowed to return home.

“We also want to ensure that the residents in the PPS are taken care of, especially with the current situation of Covid-19 pandemic, so that the infection will not spread,” he said.

Continuous heavy rain that lasted for almost five hours since 2am yesterday morning resulted in seven villages in the Hulu Langat sub-district to be hit by flash floods.

The affected locations are Kampung Batu 20 Sungai Lui, Kampung Batu 14, Kampung Batu 16, Kampung Kuala Perdik, Kampung Batu 18, Kampung Batu 17 and Kampung Sungai Serai.
