SHAH ALAM, Dec 30 — The Selangor State Health Department (JKNS) has confirmed the 25 new Covid-19 positive cases identified at the Banting market in Kuala Langat.

Its director Datuk’ Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman said 43 close contacts of the positive cases have been screened.

“The Kuala Langat District Health Office (PKD) will screen all the traders involving 101 people on Thursday (December 31),” said Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman when contacted today.

He said that the market will also be closed for ten days starting from yesterday after several individuals were found to have not complied with the standard operating procedure (SOP).

“There are still those who do not observe social distancing, do not sanitise (the area) three times a day and do not record the symptoms of their workers at the market,” he said.

Dr Sha’ari said the closure of the market would allow disinfection operations to be carried out aside from screening of close contacts and high-risk groups.

The Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) had shut the Banting market for ten days from yesterday until January 7 next year for disinfection and sanitisation processes.

MPKL president Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim said the disinfectant-spraying procedure of the premises will be supervised by the local authorities, Solid Waste Management Department and Environmental Health as well as the PKD.
