KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5 — A total of 1,123 new Covid-19 positive cases were recorded today, taking the cumulative tally to 71,395, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said the number of active cases with infectivity potential now was 10,775 while 1,143 recoveries were recorded today, taking the cumulative total of recovered cases to 60,204.
He said that of the 1,123 new cases, a total of 1,118 were local transmissions while the remaining five were imported cases.
“The Klang Valley reported the highest number of daily cases, with 490 (43.6 per cent). Sabah recorded the highest number of daily cases, with 391 or 34.8 per cent, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 265 or 23.6 per cent,” he said in a statement today.
Dr Noor Hisham also said that there were four fatalities reported today, taking the death toll to 380 (0.53 per cent of the total number of cases).
Selangor recorded 221 cases, followed by Johor (66), Penang (44), Perak (39), Kelantan (35), Kedah (30), Negeri Sembilan (10), Labuan (10), Putrajaya (four), Pahang (two) and Sarawak (one).
Dr Noor Hisham said 40 of the cases (3.6 per cent) reported were linked to clusters in the temporary detention centres and prisons involving the TPS Sibuga Cluster (27 cases) and Tembok Cluster (13).
A total of 130 cases are currently being treated in the intensive care unit, with 54 in need of respiratory assistance.
In the meantime, he advised the public to comply with the standard operating procedure (SOP) and suggestions frequently stressed by the government, including avoiding the 3C (crowded, confined, close), namely crowded and confined spaces as well as to adopt physical distancing.
“Adopt the 3W, that is, wash your hands often with water and soap (wash), it is highly recommended to wear face masks in public places or if there are symptoms (wear) and warnings (warn),” he said.
