Covid-19: 1,141 new cases, 1,144 recoveries today

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 4 — Malaysia recorded 1,141 new Covid-19 positive cases today to take the total infection tally to 70,236, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The total number of active cases with infectivity potential now stands at 10,799 and there were also 1,144 recoveries today, taking the cumulative total recovery to 59,061 cases.

Dr Noor Hisham said that of the 1,141 new cases, a total of 1,138 were local transmissions and the remaining three imported cases

“A total of 578 cases (50.7 per cent) were reported in the Klang Valley. Selangor and Sabah had the highest number of daily cases with 320 (28 per cent) each, followed by Kuala Lumpur (256 cases, 22.4 per cent),” he said at the daily press conference on Covid-19 here today.

No fatalities were reported today and the death toll remains at 376 (0.54 per cent of the total number of cases).

Johor recorded 69 cases, followed by Penang (48), Perak (47), Kedah (24), Kelantan (20), Negeri Sembilan (15), Pahang (15), Labuan (three), Putrajaya (two), Sarawak (one) and Perlis (one).

Dr Noor Hisham said that 32 of the cases (2.8 per cent) reported were linked to clusters in the temporary detention centres and prisons involving the Tembok Cluster (18 cases), Jalan Harapan Prison Cluster (six), Bakti Cluster (four), PTS Sibuga Cluster (three) and Remand Prison Cluster (one).

Meanwhile, 129 cases are currently being treated in the intensive care unit, with 53 in need of respiratory assistance.
