Covid-19: 1,937 new cases, nine deaths recorded today

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 — A total of 1,937 new Covid-19 cases were recorded today, with nine more fatalities, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said this took the total number of infections in the country to 82,246, with 13,751 of them being active cases and the death toll is at 411.

“Of the new cases, two were imported cases who were infected abroad while the remaining 1,935 were local transmissions,” he said in a statement on the latest Covid-19 development today.

He also pointed out that Selangor still had the highest number of daily cases, with 823, of which 714 were from clusters and active on-field screening of close contacts of Covid-19 positive cases. Sabah is next with 429 cases while Kuala Lumpur recorded 238 cases today.

Meanwhile, there were 911 recoveries, bringing the tally to 68,084 cases so far while 121 cases are still being treated in the intensive care unit, with 66 of them intubated.

In detailing the breakdown of cases in other states, Dr Noor Hisham said that Johor had 105 cases, followed by Penang (102 cases), Pahang (79), Perak (62), Negeri Sembilan (49), Kedah (16), Melaka (15), Labuan (11), Terengganu (six), Sarawak (one) and Kelantan (one).

The nine fatalities involved eight men, including two foreigners, and a Malaysian woman. They were aged between 33 and 84, with four of the deaths being recorded in Sabah, three in Johor and one each in Penang and Selangor.
