KLANG, Dec 9 — A total 3,719 foreign workers in the red zone areas in Klang, Selangor and Seremban, Negeri Sembilan have been screened since December 1 until yesterday, under the Targeted Covid-19 Screening Programme for Foreign Workers.
Social Security Organisation, (Socso) Prevention, Medical and Rehabilitation Division head, Dr Azlan Darus said the number would continue to increase when the screening programme was expanded to other red zones starting today.
“Starting today, employers in the red zone areas in the state including Hulu Langat, Petaling, Gombak and Kuala Lumpur can start contacting the clinics registered with Socso under this programme.
“To date, there are 592 clinics registered in six states (Selangor, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Labuan, Negeri Sembilan, Penang and Sabah).
‘’In Selangor alone, there are 298 clinics registered with Socso and employers can check the list of clinics. on our official portal, “he said.
He was speaking to reporters after a visit to the Covid-19 Foreign Workers Screening Programme at the Kossan Group of Companies, today.
More than 8,000 factory workers and company employees would be screened in the company’s initiative programme with Socso which started last Friday until December 16.
Dr Azlan also urged more employers who contribute to Socso to conduct this Covid-19 screening test as the cost of providing an antigen rapid test kit would be borne by Socso.
On November 28, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M Saravanan said the Targeted Covid-19 Screening Programme for Foreign Workers in red zone localities with high foreign worker densities was implemented starting December 1.
The first phase of the screening test was conducted in Klang and Seremban districts since December 1 while other red zone districts in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Penang started today.
The screening test for the whole of Sabah, Labuan and other districts in the states of Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan would start on December 16.
