Covid-19: Nine new clusters in Selangor, KL, Pahang, Sabah, Melaka, N. Sembilan

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 29 — The Health Ministry has identified nine new clusters today, reportedly in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Pahang, Sabah, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the first new cluster identified was the Seri Lanang Cluster involving cases in Klang, Gombak, Kuala Selangor and Petaling, Selangor districts with Covid-19 positive cases reported from December 25 through targeted screening at a factory.

“So far, 173 out of the 1,020 people screened have been tested positive,” he said in a statement on the development of Covid-19 today.

Dr Noor Hisham said the second cluster, Jalan Chu Cluster involves Lembah Pantai district, Kuala Lumpur with Covid-19 positive cases reported today via targeted screening at a company and so far 44 cases have been detected positive.

The next one is the Tapak Bina Awan Puteh Cluster involving Lembah Pantai district in Kuala Lumpur where positive Covid-19 cases were reported today through targetted screening at a construction site and so far 29 positive cases have been detected.

According to Dr Noor Hisham, the fourth cluster, the Ikon Integra Cluster, is a workplace cluster involving Titiwangsa district in Kuala Lumpur. The index case for this cluster tested positive on December 27 through self-screening and so far 11 cases have been detected positive.

The Jalan Satang Cluster involves Titiwangsa and Kepong districts in Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Langat, Klang, Petaling and Gombak districts in Selangor and Bentong district in Pahang. The index case was a Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI) case which tested positive for Covid-19 on December 20.

“To date, 104 individuals have been screened, with 30 testing positive in the cluster,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said for the Tembok Mempaga Cluster in Bentong district in Pahang the index case was reported positive on December 22 through the screening of detainees and to date 284 cases have been found positive.

For the Timbang Dayang Cluster detected in Kota Belud district in Sabah, the index case tested positive on December 25 through the screening of symptomatic individuals and so far 13 cases have tested positive, he said.

The Teguli Cluster involves the Putatan district in Sabah, where the index case tested positive on December 16 via symptomatic individual screening and, to date, 12 new Covid-19 infections have been detected.

The last cluster is the Rambai Cluster which spans the districts of Melaka Tengah and Alor Gajah in Melaka, Petaling district in Selangor and Rembau district in Negeri Sembilan with the index case reported positive on December 27.

“Until today, 102 individuals have been screened, of which 16 cases tested  positive in the cluster,” he said.

The addition of the nine new clusters brings the total number of clusters reported to date to 498, while 278 clusters were reported to have ended, including three today, namely the Bot Biru Cluster, Gedong Cluster, and Jernih Cluster.

“This brings the number of active clusters in the country to 220,” he said.
