SHAH ALAM, Dec 14 —Selangor new Covid-19 daily cases dropped by half to 435 cases out of the 1,229 cases registered nationwide at noon yesterday.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said out of the total infections recorded in the state, 344 or 79.1 per cent were reported from existing clusters and close contact screening operations.
“Selangor still recorded the highest number in new cases at 435.
“This is followed by Sabah with 333 cases and Kuala Lumpur at 131,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Selangor saw two new clusters out of the six new clusters identified nationwide, namely the Lestari Cluster and the Tanjung Suria Cluster.
“The Lestari Cluster is connected to high-risk groups that involve Petaling, Hulu Langat, Klang and Sepang as well as Lembah Pantai in Kuala Lumpur.
“As of today (Sunday, December 13), 351 individuals have been screened where 31 were confirmed to be Covid-19 positive,” said Dr Noor Hisham.
“The Tanjung Suria Cluster is connected to the workplace involving the Sepang, Gombak, Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor. A total of 8,480 individuals have been screened where 31 were found to be positive Covid-19 in this cluster.”
Dr Noor Hisham said out of the 435 daily infections in Selangor, 228 were from existing clusters including 34 cases from the new Tanjung Suria Cluster (20) and Lestari Cluster (14), 116 from close contact screenings, two imported transmissions and 89 from other Covid-19 screenings.
Meanwhile, four fatalities were reported in the country yesterday, with two recorded in Selangor involving a 44-year-old Malaysian female patient and a 29-year-old foreign male patient. This brings the total deceased in the state to 32.
As of noon yesterday, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Selangor stands at 21,047 out of the nationwide total 83,475 cases.
