Daily Covid-19 cases in Selangor doubled, 87 pct from Teratai Cluster

SHAH ALAM, Dec 1 — The daily Covid-19 cases in Selangor has more than doubled today with 891 infections recorded, compared to the 402 cases reported yesterday.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 778 cases in Selangor, or 87.3 per cent of the total daily infections, had come from the Teratai Cluster.

The country today saw a total of 1,472 new cases.

“The Teratai Cluster today saw a total of 778 cases, or 52.9 per cent, of the total daily infections in the country, and made up 87.3 per cent of the new cases reported in Selangor (891 cases).

“Since the cluster was announced on November 7, 6,603 individuals have been screened from the Teratai Cluster, whereby 5,056 were tested positive for Covid-19,” said Dr Noor Hisham in a statement today.

He said from the total positive cases, 331 patient, or 6.5 per cent, are Malaysian citizens while the remaining 4,725, or 93.5 per cent, are foreigners.

“A total of 1,501 individuals had tested negative while 46 others are awaiting results. All of the positive cases have been isolated,” he said.

“Out of the 891 new cases reported in Selangor today, 795 were from existing clusters, 39 cases from close-contact screenings, two imported case from overseas and 55 others were from other Covid-19 screenings,” he said.

According to the data by the Selangor State Health Department’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), the Klang recorded the highest new daily infections with 794 cases.

This is followed by Petaling (47), Hulu Langat (27), Gombak (8), Kuala Langat (7), Sepang (4), and Kuala Selangor (2).

Sabak Bernam and Hulu Selangor both recorded one new case each.

As of noon today, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Selangor stands at 14,826 out of the nationwide total 67,169 cases.
