EMCO at Jasin correctional centre, staff quarters from tomorrow, until Jan 4

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 21 — The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) will be implemented at the Jasin Correctional Centre and its staff quarters from tomorrow (December 22) until January 4, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

He said the move would affect 771 people comprising 603 detainees and 168 staff as well as their family members.

“The EMCO standard operating procedures (SOP)  at this detention facility are similar to the regulations announced previously, including no in or out movements, and family members are not allowed to visit,” he said in a statement here today.

Ismail Sabri said as of December 19, the Health Ministry (MoH) had conducted 1,251 screenings including the second and third screening, following which, 133 tested positive.

He said the MoH also confirmed that within a short period of time, there had been a sharp increase in Covid-19 infections among detainees at this centre.

Meanwhile the recovery movement control order (RMCO) task force detained 239 individuals for breaching the standard operating procedures (SOP) yesterday.

Of the number he said, 238 were slapped with compounds and one was remanded.

“Among the violations were failure to practice physical distancing (77), not wearing face masks (53), failure to provide necessary materials to record visitors registration (56), patronising entertainment outlets (49) and others (4),” he said.

Through Op Benteng, 25 illegal immigrants were detained and three land vehicles were seized, he added.

From July 24 to yesterday, 89,787 people have returned to Malaysia and all are serving the mandatory quarantine at 75 hotels and 16 other premises including private and public institutes, he said adding that 532 individuals were sent to hospitals for treatment.
