Local authorities are frontliners in fight against corruption — MACC

KUANTAN, Dec 10 — Local authorities are the frontliners in the battle against corruption among civil servants, said Pahang Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) director Hairuzam Mohmad Amin@Hamim.

He said it is important for all the staff of local authorities to have high integrity level because they are the public delivery agents who are exposed to corruption activities.

“I believe the war against corruption can elevate the image and credibility of local authorities as the executor of the people’s trusts. We have to give a clear message to the society that our dignity has no price,” he said in his speech at the state-level International Anti-Corruption Day (Hara) 2020 programme at Kuantan Municipal Council (MPK) Complex here yesterday.

Hairuzam said in the period of five years since 2015, the Pahang MACC had received 39 reports on corruption cases, and 25 of the cases had been charged in court.

Meanwhile, MPK president Datuk Hamdan Hussin said the agency targetted zero corruption case involving its officers and personnel next year with various awareness programmes to be implemented such as courses and talks on integrity.
