GOMBAK, Dec 1 — A heavy machinery storage and reparation workshop illegally built along the Sungai Garing riverbank was demolished today.
State executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said the 2.2 acres premises situated 20 metres away from Sungai Garing posed a risk in polluting the water source thus causing water supply disruption.
“The premises were built on state-owned land ten years ago and had violated Section 425 of the National Land Code for illegal settlement on government land.
“Solvent waste and engine oil that flowed into rivers are among the main causes of river pollution in Selangor, so we cannot compromise on this matter,” said Ng after witnessing the demolition of the workshop near Taman Garing today.
The operation was conducted by the Selayang Municipal Council with assistance from the Gombak Land and District Office.
The workshop is the third premise to be demolished by authorities within the span of one week.
On November 24, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said eight illegal premises along the river banks of Sungai Rawang will be demolished.
Amirudin said the premises involve six heavy machinery workshops and two recycling factories.
