SHAH ALAM, Dec 17 — The Selangor government does not recognise the appointment of ‘Penggerak Komuniti Tempatan’ (PeKT) to ensure there is no conflict with the role of local authorities (PBT) council members.
State executive councillor on local government Ng Sze Han said local council member’s’ role is to represent the interests of the community in their area as provided in Section 10 of the Local Government Act 1976 (Act 171).
“There is no need to appoint PeKT to act as an intermediary between the community and the government as the task is entrusted to each local council member,” said Ng in a statement yesterday.
He added the state government was made to understand, on the use of Selangor local authorities name in the official letterhead of PeKT.
“If this is true, it is an inappropriate action as PeKT has nothing to do with Selangor PBT.
“Any use of the name of Selangor PBT by PeKT in any form is not allowed and illegal,” he said.
