Queen attends tahlil ceremony for late Tun Rahah

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 21 — The Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah yesterday attended a tahlil ceremony for the late Tun Rahah Mohamed Noah at the Ar-Rahah Mosque, Kampung Kerinchi here.

On arrival at the mosque at 6.55pm, Her Majesty was greeted by Tun Rahah’s son, former Prime MInister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

After performing the magrib prayer Tunku Azizah then participated in the recitation of Yasin and tahlil led by the imam of Ar-Rahah Mosque, Khairul Haffiz Abd Halim.

Her Majesty later joined the congregation to perform the isyak prayer led by Khairul Haffiz. After dinner was served she left at 9.40pm.

Only a limited number of people were present tonight in complying with the standard operating procedures (SOP) to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Tun Rahah, 87, died on Friday at the Prince Court Medical Centre.

Yesterday, her remains were brought to the Ar-Rahah Mosque for the public to pay their final respects. Following the state funeral ceremony at the National Mosque, Tun Rahah was laid to rest at the Heroes’ Mausoleum. 

Born on June 11, 1933 in Muar, Johor, she was the youngest daughter of national politician Tan Sri Mohamed Noah Omar and received her early education at the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus in Johor Bahru.

Tun Rahah married Malaysia’s second prime minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein on Sept 4, 1952, and they were blessed with five sons — Najib, Datuk Ahmad Johari, Datuk Mohamed Nizam, Datuk Mohamed Nazim and Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazir.

She was widowed at the age of 43 when Tun  Razak died on January 14, 1976 due to leukaemia.
