Selangor records second-highest deaths due to dengue

SHAH ALAM, Dec 31 — Selangor is among the three states recording the highest number of deaths due to dengue, says the Health Malaysia (MOH).

In a Twitter post today, a total of 144 dengue-related deaths were registered nationwide as of December 26.

“Johor, Selangor and Sabah saw the highest number of deaths reported due to dengue.

“Spend at least 10 minutes over the weekend to eliminate the dengue breeding spots,” the post read.

According to the infographic shared by the ministry, Johor saw 43 total deaths this year, followed by Selangor (37), Sabah (16), Negeri Sembilan (10), Melaka (9) and Pahang (8).

Kelantan and Putrajaya each recorded seven deaths followed by Perak (3) and two deaths each in Sarawak and Penang.

The MOH also shared the dengue preventive measures, which include the use of repellents, spraying pesticides, avoiding being outdoors in the early morning and dusk as well as installing mosquito repellents, mosquito nets and screens to prevent Aedes mosquito bites.

Yesterday, the Selangor State Health Department reported 381 cases of dengue fever for the period between December 20 to 26, which showed an increase of 5.8 per cent compared to the 360 cases reported in the previous week.

Its director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman said 37 deaths were reported, a decrease of 33.9 per cent compared to 56 cases in the same period last year.
