SHAH ALAM, Dec 15 — SmartSel Sdn Bhd’s Selangor Geospatial Management System (Selgem) received international recognition when it won the Geospatial World Excellence Award in the State Governance category at the recent Geospatial World Awards 2020.

Selgem board of director member Dr Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi said the award recognises individuals and organisations that come out with cutting-edge ideas and innovations in the global geospatial industry.

“Selangor is the first state in Malaysia to have the most complete database in terms of topography, utility and demographics.

“This set Selgem as the local geospatial centre for identifying, planning and controlling of areas for development of affordable housing, solid waste management, drainage and river flow, forestry and agriculture, disaster management and development of telecommunication infrastructure and utilities,” said Dr Mohamad Khairil in a statement.

He added the system is utilised widely in disaster management, environmental conservation and utility mapping in line with the Smart Selangor concept.

The Geospatial World Awards 2020 ceremony was held virtually on October 6.
