SHAH ALAM, Dec 12 — The active Covid-19 screening operations conducted in Selangor has led to the rise in new cases in the state.
The Selangor Task Force for Covid-19 head Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said some of the newly identified cases have been present within the community but was only traced when the individuals involved were screened.
“We would not be able to trace these cases if we do not carry out the screenings. STFC had before voiced on the potential transmissions at the workplace, especially among the foreign workers.
“We had proposed two policies to the government and the MOH (Health Ministry), which was to get employers to have their workers tested as well as using the Rapid Test Kit Antigen (RTK Antigen) method. This had proven to be effective and caused the spike in cases,” he said in a statement yesterday.
On Thursday, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah had said that further spikes in workplace infections are expected in Selangor following the expansion of the foreign workers screening programme by the Social Security Organisation (Socso) as well as the proactive measures by employers to screen their workers.
Close contact tracing is still being held actively and those found positive would be isolated at the low-risk quarantine and treatment centre for Covid-19 patients at the Malaysian Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) as well as the Sungai Buloh Hospital.
