SHAH ALAM Dec 30 — With various fascinating tourist attractions offered in Selangor, the people residing in the state are encouraged to pay the local holiday destinations a visit without having to cross state borders.

State executive councillor for tourism Hee Loy Sian said even though there are no travel restrictions within the country during the conditional movement control order (CMCO) period, he said the people in Selangor should plan their holidays in the state especially following the upsurge in Covid-19 cases.

“We know that people want to travel but they must remember to continue abiding by the standard operating procedure (SOP) and refrain from interstate travels as the number of Covid-19 infections is still high.

“There are various unique places to visit in Selangor such as Sky Mirror in Kuala Selangor, and this would in return also give support towards the state’s tourism industry,” he said after the handing over ceremony of funds to the Christian associations, here yesterday.

He said that the tourism industry is beginning to show a positive development as hotel occupancy has increased.

“A lot of the (hotel) bookings are full despite the slightly increased rate and this is a good development to boost the tourism sector even with the CMCO in place,” he said.

On December 17, Tourism Selangor had launched the “Nak Bercuti? Pusing Selangor Dulu!” campaign to encourage the locals to visit the diverse holiday destinations in the state.

The state government had also launched the Tourism Voucher Subsidy Redemption programme, where vouchers valued at RM200 each will be given to the people for spending at selected places of interest.
