SHAH ALAM, Dec 9 — The Selangor ruling party says it is prepared to achieve the state government’s policy that aims to see 30 per cent women representation as councillors in the state’s local authorities.

In a joint statement yesterday, the three women chief from the Selangor Pakatan Harapan component parties said 84 candidates that fit the criteria to hold the position have been identified.

“We understand that this is based on the policy that has been set in 2013, whereby the state administration has prepared a guideline that each local authority should have at least 30 per cent women representation as policymakers.

“Therefore, the Selangor Wanita Pakatan Harapan has met today (yesterday) and unanimously agreed to fulfil the 30 per cent policy in the appointment of the local councillors for the 2021-2022 session this coming January,” the statement read.

The statement was issued by Selangor Wanita PKR chief Rodziah Ismail, Selangor Wanita DAP chief Lee Kee Hiong and Selangor Wanita Amanah chief Rawiyiah Zakaria.

They had also expressed gratitude for the commitment shown by Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari with the RM71.3 million funds announced in the 2021 Selangor Budget allocated for the women, family and community development.

On July 2, Amirudin had said that policymakers in the Selangor State Executive Council has seen almost a 25 per cent women representation.
