Covid-19: Bandar Utama rep explores new ways to distribute aid

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, Jan 20 — Bandar Utama state assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin is exploring new ideas on the distribution of aid to the locals in need.

Jamaliah said the different approach this year should be mobilised to fulfill the needs of the targeted groups, especially those most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Discussions will be held with officers and council members involved to ascertain the types of assistance required including improving the handout system whether through vouchers, or other ways.

“Throughout the pandemic, many provided basic food assistance, however, they need more than just that,” Jamaliah told SelangorKini.

She said this while reviewing the initiative by Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari who allocated RM100,000 to each state constituency and RM50,000 to MPs to ensure the continuity of the Mesra Rakyat programmes.

Amirudin, when announcing the Kita Selangor Package yesterday, said the special allocation was approved following the ongoing pandemic situation.

Further explaining, Jamaliah said that the allocation would enable the people’s representatives to plan and execute assistance programmes more holistically in their respective constituencies.

“I hope these assistance will not only help lighten the burden of Bandar Utama folks but motivate them to find a greater source of income,” she said.

She added that close to 1,600 families that comprised the low-income level group (B40), senior citizens and single mothers had received the basic food assistance since March last year.

Jamaliah said her team had conducted collaborations with several selected supermarkets to supply the goods under wholesale terms.
