Covid-19: Five new clusters, three at workplace

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 4 — The Health Ministry today detected five new Covid-19 clusters including three at the workplace, bringing the total number of clusters in Malaysia to 537, with 231 being active ones under monitoring.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the workplace clusters were detected through targeted screening at the workplace while the other two clusters were identified through screening of symptomatic individuals.

Two workplace clusters were detected in Selangor, involving the Jalan Duyong Cluster in Klang and the Pasar Jalan Sentosa Cluster in Kuala Langat, and the third, the Jalan Nakhoda Cluster, was detected in Titiwangsa and Cheras districts in Kuala Lumpur.

“The first positive case in the Jalan Duyong Cluster was detected on December 31, 2020 following targeted screening at a company and so far (January 4) 536 individuals have been screened with 110 confirmed positive,” he told a press conference on Covid-19 updates here.

He said the Pasar Jalan Sentosa Cluster had 61 positive cases while the Jalan Nakhoda Cluster reported 14 cases.

The other two new clusters are the Ehsan Ibol Cluster in Hulu Perak, Larut, Matang and Selama in Perak and Gombak, Selangor which recorded 22 positive cases while the Telok Mas Cluster in Melaka Tengah district registered 13 cases.

Dr Noor Hisham said 50 clusters reported an increase in cases today, with the highest at the Jalan Duyong Cluster with 95 cases, followed by the Jalan Perindustrian Cluster (81) and Hentian Cluster (73).

He also said six more clusters – Batu Sembilan, Saguking, Monsoon, Buntar, Sky Coklat and Gading Clusters – ended today, raising the cumulative number for ended clusters to 306.
