Covid-19: Malaysia records highest daily new cases at 2,593 — Health DG

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 6 — Malaysia recorded the highest number of new daily Covid-19 cases today at 2,593 cases, bringing the total number of positive cases in the country to 125,438.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the number of those with Covid-19 who have recovered today is 1,129 cases bringing the cumulative number of fully recovered cases to 100,578 cases, or 80.2 percent of the total cases.

“The number of active cases with Covid-19 infectivity is 24,347,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said that out of the 2,593 new cases recorded today, four were imported from abroad while 2,589 cases were local transmissions.

Selangor reported the highest new daily cases at 965, followed by Johor with 571 and Sabah at 405, he said. 

He said that thus far there are 141 cases of Covid-19 being treated at the Intensive Care Unit with 67 cases needing respiratory assistance.

Dr Noor Hisham said that four Covid-19 deaths were reported today bringing the cumulative number of deaths in the country to 513, or 0.41 per cent of the total number of cases.

Two Covid-19 deaths were reported in Sabah, while the other two were in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor respectively.

All the deaths involved Malaysian citizens, aged 50 to 73, with high blood pressure records, he said.
