Foreign Minister to participate in virtual AMM retreat tomorrow — Wisma Putra

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20 — Foreign Minister Datuk Seri  Hishammuddin Tun Hussein is  participating at the Asean Foreign Ministers’ Retreat (AMM Retreat) via video conference tomorrow (January 21).

Wisma Putra, in a statement today,  said among issues that will be discussed by the foreign ministers are updates on the implementation of the decisions reached during the 37th Asean Summit held under the chairmanship of Vietnam in 2020, as well as initiatives to take forward the agenda and key priorities of Brunei Darussalam’s Asean Chairmanship this year.

“They will also exchange views on regional and international issues of common concern, as well as means to enhance Asean’s relations with its external partners,” it said.

Wisma Putra said Brunei Darussalam helms the chairmanship of Asean this year with the theme, “We Care, We Prepare, We Prosper”.

The AMM Retreat is the first scheduled meeting for Asean member states, chaired by Brunei’s Second Minister of Foreign Affairs Datuk Erywan Pehin Yusof with the participation of Asean Foreign Ministers and the secretary-general of Asean. The retreat was preceded by the Asean Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) on January 19, said the statement.

“Malaysia fully supports and is committed to making substantive progress under Brunei Darussalam’s chairmanship of Asean in 2021,” said Wisma Putra.
