Listing of Perigi Tujuh Serendah as National Heritage Site will boost tourism

SHAH ALAM, Jan 5 — The proposal to list Perigi Tujuh Serendah (Seven Wells of Serendah) in Hulu Selangor as a National Heritage Site will add value to the tourism sector in Selangor.

State executive councillor for tourism Hee Loy Sian said a comprehensive data will be passed to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) for further analysis before the place is gazetted.

“Although the gazetting takes time, we are still committed to raising the status of the wells,” Hee said during the Media Selangor’s Bual Bicara talk show here last night.

On December 13, 2020, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the Perigi Tujuh Serendah was among 11 listings in Hulu Selangor district of Selangor that was in the inventory of the National Heritage Department for the purpose of research before being gazetted.

At the same time, Hee asked local authorities (PBT) to monitor and upgrade tourist spots for the comfort of the people.

“Although the Belanjawan Selangor 2021 (2021 Selangor Budget) has provided funding for the purpose of upgrading and renovation of tourism products, local authorities also need to have their own budget for maintenance so that they will not be left behind,” he added.
