Mais contributes RM200,000 to aid mosques, suraus affected by MCO

SHAH ALAM, Jan 19 — A total of 250 mosques and suraus which obtained permission to conduct Friday prayers have received a total of RM200,000 from the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais).

The cash aid through the baitulmal allocation covers mosques in and outside the city as well as suraus whose income were affected following implementation of the movement control order (MCO).

Mais secretary Dr Ahmad Shahir Makhtar said the contribution was credited into the receivers’ bank accounts for mosques in the suburbs while the rest were processed by stages.

“RM1,000 was distributed to 150 mosques in the suburbs, RM500 to 60 mosques in the city and RM500 to 40 suraus which have obtained the permission to run the Friday prayers,” he said in a statement.

Among the mosques were Masjid Ar-Rohmaniah Kuala Langat, Masjid As-Sajidin Batang Kali and Masjid Tebuk Sultan Sungai Tengar, Sabak Bernam.

While the suraus covered Surau Al-Firdaus Taman Seri Kembangan, Surau Kampung Setia Kuang and Surau Al-Ikhlas Kampung Sungai Purun, Semenyih.
