Malaysia strongly condemns terrorist attacks in Baghdad

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 22 — Malaysia strongly condemned the terrorist attacks that took place in Baghdad, Iraq, yesterday (Thursday), resulting in multiple deaths and injuries to innocent civilians.

“We extend our deep sympathies and sincere condolences to the government and people of Iraq, in particular the bereaved families of the victims, and wish a speedy recovery to those injured.

“Malaysia stands in solidarity with Iraq during this challenging time,” said Foreign Ministry in a statement today.

The statement said Malaysia reaffirms its stance in rejecting terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations and that it continues to underscore the urgent need for a concerted international effort to eliminate the scourge of terrorism in a comprehensive and effective manner.

In the incident on Thursday morning, at least 32 people were killed and 110 others wounded in twin suicide bombings in Baghdad as a suicide bomber blew up his explosive belt in a crowded outdoor clothing market in Bab al-Sharji area, before a second one detonated a few minutes later in the same market.
