MB: Covid-19 prevention strategy pending NSC approval

By Norrasyidah Arshad

SABAK BERNAM, Jan 11 — Several of the Selangor government’s plan to contain the Covid-19 infection in the state requires the approval of the National Security Council (NSC) before it can be disclosed to the public.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the plan was discussed in the State Executive Council Meeting (MMKN) last week as part of the state’s efforts to assist the NSC in breaking the chain infections.

“The current rise in cases is different than before and Selangor is among the states that recorded the highest number of cases due to large scale screenings on foreign workers.

“Now we need to rearrange the plan so that the healthcare system can better support and control the surge in cases,” Amirudin said after a working visit here today.

The Selangor Security Council Committee had in last December outlined three guidelines to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

This includes opening the low-risk Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC) to house asymptomatic Covid-19 patients, which reduces congestion in hospitals.

Several free community screenings were initiated for residents of Klang and Taman Sri Muda between December 2, 2020, and January 7, following the high number of cases reported in the areas.

The state government had also isolated 247 cargo workers at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for 14 days from November 26, 2020.
