MCO: Jais conducts online solemnisation for 442 couples

SHAH ALAM, Jan 28 —  The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) has solemnised the wedding of 442 couples through video conferences since the implementation of the movement control order (MCO) on January 14.

Its director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said the akad nikah ceremonies at the District Religious Offices (Paid) were done after the couples had received permission to wed and appointments were fixed.

“Through this method, the marriage registrar at Paid would witness the wedding between the guardian and the bridegroom who will broadcast from home in the presence of the bride and two other witnesses.

“The online solemnisation ceremony method was in accordance with the compulsory matters and pillars of marriage, aside from ensuring the safety of the parties involved from the Covid-19 infection,” it said in a statement yesterday.

However, Mohd Shahzihan said starting January 25, Jais will convey the expansion of the akad nikah implementation to the Marriage Registrar Assistant (PPP) who are in charge of mosque administrations.

“All the PPPs are allowed to implement the solemnisation process using video conference to ensure the smooth delivery of marriage matters for Muslim couples beginning February 4.

“In line with that, on January 25, service counters by appointment is also be opened for specific matters at Paid,” he said.

Explaining further, he added that for a start, 25 counter appointments will be fixed daily from 8am to 1pm.

“The appointment slots will be increased from time to time based on the instructions by the National Security Council (NSC), Health Ministry and customer request,” he said.
