Mechanic fined RM100 for insulting father

PETALING JAYA, Jan 15 — A mechanic was fined RM100, in default two days’ jail, by the Magistrate’s Court here, today for insulting his father after he was scolded for placing a tin of biscuits on a bed.

Magistrate Muhammad Iskandar Zainol meted out the sentence against A Andrew, 34, after he pleaded guilty to committing the offence against A Arulnathan, 63, at a house in Desa Perangsang here, at 7pm on January 10.

The charge was framed under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 which carries a maximum fine of RM100.

Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Zamriah Zarifah Aris called for a deterrent punishment but in mitigation, the accused said he was recently hired as a mechanic and was drunk during the incident.

Meanwhile, at the same court, a policeman pleaded not guilty to a charge of failing to turn up for work for 25 consecutive days without a valid reason.

Mohd Hayier Hatta, 23, was charged for being absent from June 7 until July 1, 2019, under Section 86 of the Police Act 1967 which carries a maximum 12 months’ jail, if convicted.

He was alleged to have committed the offence at the Bukit Puchong Police Station here, at 5.15pm on July 2, 2019.

Muhammad Iskandar allowed bail at RM1,200 in one surety and set March 19 for remention.
