MPC to boost awareness on productivity-linked wage system, eSPO certification

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 30 — The Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) has pledged to heighten efforts to create awareness on the Productivity-Linked Wage System (PLWS) and e-Shared Prosperity Organisation (eSPO) Acknowledgement Certificate this year.

It also said it would encourage more businesses to become shared prosperity organisations in line with the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030.

“This month, MPC has started its outreach on the programme via industry networking efforts, virtual advocating platforms and webinars,” the statutory body said in a statement yesterday.

eSPO, which is recognised by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti) and Ministry of Human Resources, is an online system which issues electronic acknowledgement certificates to companies that have successfully implemented PLWS.

MPC director-general Datuk Abdul Latif Abu Seman said that by the end of last year, nearly 90,000 employers had implemented PLWS, a gain-sharing method which mutually benefits both the employers and employees.

“The eSPO Acknowledgement Certificate aims to enhance these organisations’ standing and visibility as shared prosperity organisations and employees’ workplaces of choice,” he said.

According to him, productivity is the gamechanger to escalate economic recovery impacted by the pandemic and MPC, mandated to drive the productivity of the nation, has the responsibility to assist businesses to boost productivity, which in turns would affect performance, profitability, and efficiency.

“eSPO Acknowledgement Certificate is one of the various initiatives towards this goal,” he said.

The eSPO Acknowledgement Certificate was officially launched by MITI on December 17 last year and to date, 377 applications have been received and 332 electronic certificates have been issued.

KPJ Penang Specialist Hospital recently received an eSPO Acknowledgement Certificate. Its chief executive officer Zabidi Abdul Razak said PLWS had been part and parcel of its talent management.

“It is evident now in KPJ Penang that there is a strong relationship between staff satisfaction, customer satisfaction and hospital’s profit and growth. I am confident that both the hospital and staff will prosper together.

“I strongly recommend that every organisation implement PLWS and get certified with eSPO for mutual benefits,” he added.
