SHAH ALAM, Jan 23 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj and Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, were pleased to share that they have been rescuing stray cats and providing them with care.
Sultan Sharafuddin and Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin said they are currently looking after a few cats that were once strays including one named Snowy, a feline that appeared at the residence of His Royal Highness looking for food four years ago.
“His Royal Highnesses had taken an initiative to adopt Snowy and it is now the beloved cat of the household and also a loyal companion.
“Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin who is also the Royal Ambassador of the Stray Free Selangor (SFS) programme under the purview of the Society For The Prevention of Cruelty Animals (Selangor SPCA) has also rescued more than 100 stray cats, 30 of which have become our pets while the rest were given away for adoption,” said a statement issued on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page today.
The Selangor Ruler said the measure to adopt stray animals would enable them to be clean and pleasant pets if they are provided with proper care and treatment.
Meanwhile, between March 2017 and December 2020, a total of 7,117 stray cats and dogs had been spayed or neutered under the SFS programme which is supervised by the Selangor SPCA.
