KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 — The police have taken down a drug smuggling and distribution syndicate that has been using Malaysia as a transit point with the arrest of six syndicate members last Friday.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Datuk Yong Lei Choo said all the suspects, aged 28 to 58, were arrested in six separate raids around the Klang Valley.
She said that 100.92 kilograms (kg) of ketamine and 60 kg of heroin worth RM11 million, destined to be sent abroad using sea routes, were also seized during the raids.
“All the drugs were found in a car parked at a parking lot in the capital while both drugs (ketamine and heroin) could be distributed to 636,375 addicts at any one time,” she said during a media conference at Dang Wangi district police headquarters here yesterday.
Yong said the syndicate had been active in drug smuggling and distribution since October last year.
“Other assets seized include six cars, 21 pieces of jewellery and two Rolex watches, as well as RM423,829 in cash, for a total of RM937,329.
“The police will seize all the assets under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988,” she said.
Yong said all the suspects were remanded for seven days beginning Jan 16 till this Friday (January 22) to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
