Public inspection of RTS project begins tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 — Public inspection of the Rapid Transit System Link  (RTS Link) between Johor Bahru and Singapore will be from tomorrow until April 15.

Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) announced in a statement today that the public inspection would be done virtually following enforcement of the movement control order (MCO) in Kuala Lumpur and Johor, three other states and the federal territories yesterday.

All documents and materials for the public inspection have been prepared online on the MRT Corp website at www.mymrt.com.my

“Initially, MRT Corp intended to open two physical public inspection locations, namely, the Land Transport Agency (APAD) headquarters in Kuala Lumpur and KOMTAR JBCC in Johor Bahru.

“Although the locations cannot be opened at this time, MRT Corp will open these to the public after the MCO ends. MRT Corp will make an announcement when the locations are reopened,” it said.

MRT Corp explained that the three-month public inspection was mandatory under Section 84 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010.

“When the public inspection is conducted, information on the RTS Link project, including plans and alignment profiles, station site context plans, trains and details about possible land acquisitions for the project will be prepared for public scrutiny.

“Feedback or objections must be made between January 15 and April 15, 2021 using the online Public Objection Form available on the MRT Corp website along with the public inspection materials,” MRT Corp said.

All feedback and objections will be forwarded to APAD. Further enquiries on the public inspection can be forwarded to MRT Corp by contacting +6017-3438890 or by email to [email protected].

RTS Link is a train service between Johor Bahru and Woodlands, Singapore. The 4-kilometre (km) route, 2.7 km in Malaysia and 1.3 km in Singapore, will have two stations, one at Bukit Chagar, Johor Bahru and the other in Woodlands North, Singapore. When completed, the line will enable travellers to cross between Malaysia and Singapore comfortably and efficiently.

Malaysia Rapid Transit System Sdn Bhd, a fully-owned subsidiary of MRT Corp, was appointed  as Malaysia’s public infrastructure company for the project with the line’s public infrastructure work expected to be completed in 2024 and the train service at the end of 2026.
